Biomedical Program History at ECE
From January 1980 to June 1995, the biomedical engineering program was established within the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering under the leadership of
Dr. Yusuf Gulut
. The program aimed to offer a bachelor's degree in the field and became the first of its kind in Saudi Arabia.
Dr. Bahattin Karagozuglu
served as the program coordinator from September 1983 to February 2010. Their collaboration led to the program's development, and it received approval for its MSc track in 2011, solidifying its pioneering role in biomedical engineering education.
From March 2010 to June 2023,
Dr. Abdulhameed Fouad Al-Khateeb
assumed the role of program coordinator, overseeing its growth and development, contributing significantly to its success and expansion over the years. He is the first Saudi to honor a PhD in Biomedical Engineering.
In July 2023,
Dr. Eyad Talal Attar
took over as the program coordinator, bringing fresh perspectives and initiatives to further enhance the program's offerings and impact in the field of biomedical engineering. Dr.Eyad promoted the program by initiating the program newsletter and social media.
Under the guidance of these esteemed coordinators, the biomedical engineering program has evolved into a cornerstone of education and innovation, empowering students to excel in this dynamic and critical field of study.
